Most etheticians complete some type of a training program, then apply for licensure. The programs are often provided by colleges.
The job outlook for this position in the US looks good over the next 10 years, keeping in mind that geographical differences may exist. There appears to be a surplus of estheticians in Canada, so there will be more competition for these jobs there.
