A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An individual must also take one or a series of real estate courses and complete a licensure exam in order to work in this field.

Work Environment

Realtors typically work in real estate or leasing offices. About half of them are self-employed. Realtors spend some time in the office, but they will spend a lot of time showing properties to potential buyers. Evening and weekend work should be expected. Some realtors may only work part-time.

Future Outlook

The job outlook for this position looks fair over the next 10 years, keeping in mind that geographical differences may exist. There will likely be a lot of competition for these jobs. It is fairly easy to get into this line of work, but it can be difficult for newcomers to be successful.
