Career Overview

Power plant operators monitor, operate, and maintain all of the systems and power-generating equipment involved in generating power at a power plant.

Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary to obtain these positions. Completing a college program related to electrical technology would make an applicant more employable. Power plant operators will learn the job through an on-the-job apprenticeship program that will take several years to complete.
