Mechanical engineers design, develop, build, and evaluate machinery and systems for power generation, heating and air conditioning, engines, and machines. They are also involved in the installation, operation, and maintenance of these systems.

Education

A four-year bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is necessary to obtain this position. A higher degree (master's or doctorate), which may take an additional two-five years to earn, may be required by some organizations and would definitely be more valuable.
