Although there is no formal educational requirement for being a farmer, completing a two-year college program or four-year bachelor’s degree in an agriculturally-related field would be very beneficial. Training in other skills such as welding may be very helpful because of all of the equipment that is constantly being used and needing to be maintained.
Farmers work on farms - surprise!! Some of this work can be seasonal. Many farmers are self-employed. Long hours may be required during certain times of the year. This is not an office job! You need to be ready to spend a lot of time working outside, and you are likely to get dirty!
